It's our first monthly topic! This month's topic is: How did you get into drawing/art? Who or what are your inspirations? Share your stories!
For me, my older siblings forced me to draw with them at a young age. It eventually grew on me and I have been doing it ever since. In 2007 my siblings and several of my cousins formed an art group called Kev Xav where we spent our summers working on a full-feature length animation and several comics afterwards. I went to college thinking I'll study Multimedia, but ended up studying Comics and Sequential Arts. Most of my work is inspired by everyday life. I also try to incorporate aspects of the Hmong culture in my illustrations and stories. Nowadays, I try very hard to balance life with my art projects.
As a kid my inspirations were Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Tokyo Mew Mew, and Studio Ghibli films (basically anime and manga). Some of my current favorite illustrators are: Jon Klassen, Ryan Andrews, Jillian Tamaki, and Teagan White. I also like the work of classical artists like J. M. W. Turner.

This journal entry has been delayed a few days due to the holiday and several personal stuff that had to get done.
Anyways! This month's topic is regarding CONTRACTS! What are they and how do you use them to the best of your advantage?!
So let's pretend you are an illustrator and a client has contacted you regarding a project and they're willing to PAY YOU! So, what should you do next? My guess is hopefully you have a contract for them to sign (or vice versa).

I was always very imaginative when I was young. I used to daydream all the time in class and did little drawings here and there. But nothing too serious at the time.
When I became a freshman in college I was pretty broke so I couldn't afford gifts for my friends as they all gave me something for Christmas. I decided to draw and paint a few small things for them as gifts with sketch paper and cheap frames from Ross. After that Christmas I've decided I would do more art for myself and to inspire others.
My biggest inspiration for art would have to be my parents and those who are around me. Lots of things aren't realistically possible for many of us but with some imagination and art, anything is possible.
